Spanish
Dear Parents,
I had the opportunity to meet a few of you during open house a
couple of weeks ago, and I am very excited to see your enthusiasm
for your children’s progress in learning Spanish! I hope
to be a good contribution to that end, and believe that with our
combined efforts the students can all advance quite quickly not
only in learning a wide base of Spanish vocabulary, but that they
also will become adept at correctly forming phrases and expressing
ideas in Spanish.
Let me also share a little about myself:
Several years ago I went to Venezuela, South America where I studied
Spanish among the Venezuelans. Later I was asked to teach Spanish
to a group of missionaries that arrived in Venezuela, and agreed
to assist them for a year. Additionally, I began to teach Spanish
to a group of American children, and greatly enjoyed those classes.
I continued to work as a translator and language consultant for
a couple of more years, and was presented with a request that
I tackle the job of learning an unknown tribal language. This
job description would involve not only learning the new language,
but also preparing a language course for a missionary team who
was soon to work in that tribe. The missionary team was to consist
of both North Americans as well as Latin Americans, so I prepared
the language course in English as well as Spanish, then used their
respective languages to communicate with them and teach them the
tribal language.
Since that time I have continued to work as a translator and language
consultant, providing online help in addition to my occasional
trips overseas. I continue to enjoy working with languages, and
hope that your children will benefit from our classes together
as we start from the introductory level and advance quickly!!
I will continue to update you as I work ahead in preparing more
lessons.
Blessings,
Lori Higham
