Beyond Beads: Service Through Beading

Beyond Beads is a ministry group focusing on service and outreach. Currently, they

  • Provide memory bracelets through Stroger Hospital for mothers who have lost babies.
  • Teach girls from Lawrence Hall basic beading skills for enjoyment, service or gifting.
  • Sell jewelry to obtain supplies for ongoing service projects and workshops with various charity groups.

If you would like to join the Beyond Beads group in their continuing service projects, they need any skill you are willing to share from writing note cards, to packaging beads, to creating and setting up display posters, to organizing workshops, to making jewelry.

It is a way to use your God-given creativity in service to others while enjoying conversation and learning with other beading enthusiasts.

All skill levels are welcome. If you don’t know how to bead, we will teach you! This is open to parishioners and non-parishioners alike. All are welcome every first and third Wednesday of the month from 7 to 9 pm in the Parish Activity Center, Room 203.

If you want to bead, bring:
6 crimps (either gold or silver)
2 toggle clasps (either gold or silver)
2 stands of beads (any size or color…but tiny beads, especially pearls, are a challenge)
long nose pliers and scissors
wire stringing material
(We have enough to share if you don’t have any.)
All of these materials can be purchased at Michael’s.
(2231 Willow Rd., Glenview)

Many hands together make the circle strong and the task light!

The Beyond Beads group hosted girls from Lawrence Hall's therapeutic school for a beading workshop at FHC on October 19, 2007. The group made memory bracelets for a Stroger Hospital program that cares for mothers who have lost their babies.
In the Picture - Fran Freeman and Beyond Beads co-chairs Debbie Sullivan and Cicely Michalak with the young women and their school principal, Sharl Demitrowicz.
