Confirmation Candidates serve Soup and make Sandwiches
for those in need in the city
April 2007
Confirmation candidates worked to develop the habit of
service in three ways: in their daily lives at home and school; in an individual service project; and by their participation
in a “class” service project which involved different
opportunities to serve with The Night Ministry.
On three occasions, small groups of students and parents traveled with The Night Ministry bus into Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood with 10 gallons of soup for low income families. Their ministry wasn’t just about serving soup, though; they made connections, conversation, and friends….even played football together!
Other students packed Sack Suppers (200 of them on two separate occasions) for The Night Ministry to distribute on nightly runs with the Outreach Bus.
Many of the students also participated in a fundraising activity to benefit The Night Ministry: they offered a gift-wrapping service for parishioners at Christmas!
