December, 2010 Parish Council Letter:

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

The new 2010-11 term of the Parish Council and the Parish Commissions has begun. We intend that this year be one where we can continue to find ways to serve you and to build a stronger parish.

Thank you to Susan Nelson and Jim Brault, outgoing Parish Council Presidents, for their great leadership over the past year. Their tireless efforts have provided many benefits for the parish. We would also like to thank the other retiring Parish Council members, Jim Burke and Dan Garrison, for their many and varied contributions over the years.

The overall goal of the Parish Council over the next year is to continue to enhance connections among FHC parishioners. More specifically, the Parish Council intends to pursue the following:

-- Over the next year we will be helping Fr. Marty with the forthcoming 75th Anniversary of the parish. The anniversary year will be marked with many events, all intended to bring us together, to provide opportunities for worship and prayer, and to involve the parish in outreach efforts.

-- We also want to provide assistance and support to Fr. Marty in several other new activities during the year, such as implementing the modifications to the liturgy, helping with Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos, and developing a youth ministry mission trip.

-- We also will continue the efforts begun in the last few years to increase parishioner involvement and communication within the parish, including:

-- Home Masses and outdoor Masses
-- Lenten small groups and a Lenten dramatic presentation
-- Faithhopeapalooza and other efforts targeted at junior high students
-- Faith Alive and other outreach efforts
-- Community life events such as Oktoberfest, a parish Open House, and Summerfest
-- Enhancing parish communication

The Parish Council members for the year that will help to pursue these goals are Paul Agase, Bill Burke, Colleen Detjen, Dave O'Donoghue, Tony Enrietto, Bob Foley, Andy Hick, Pam Perkus, Jon Talty and Jennifer Thompson. Of course, the parish Commissions are also going to work on these goals. In addition, Fr. Marty has instituted a planning committee for the 75th Anniversary celebration.

If you would like to serve on any Parish Commissions or otherwise to help in any of these efforts, please contact either of us at the contact information below. In addition, please call either of us, or any member of the Parish Council, if you have any suggestions or concerns.

Sincerely,
John Gavin - john_gavin@bcbsil.com - 847-256-6902

Roles of the Pastoral Council
1. To build a community of Catholic faith and a deepening of spirituality among all parishioners of Ss. Faith, Hope and Charity Parish as part of the Universal church.
2. To deepen the unity of our Parish by gathering all members of the Parish, lay and clergy, into one body to share responsibility for all facets of Parish life (in order to inspire and encourage the participation in the work of the parish.)
3. To welcome all people into the Parish by embracing their voices, activities and ideas.
4. To provide a forum whereby the council may listen and discern about any and all parishioners’ views about matters affecting the Parish.
5. To be the primary voice in pastoral planning with the Pastor and staff, both short and long term, by evaluating the past, reading the signs of the times, and preparing for the future.
6. To inspire parishioners to concrete steps and action for serving the community, local and beyond.
7. To support and encourage effective Catholic formation for parishioners of all ages.
8. To invite others to share our faith.
9. To ensure the wise use of our Parish resources, both human and material.

Membership on the Pastoral Council
The Pastoral Council seeks to discern the voice of the Lord as expressed through the pastoral needs and common voice of the Parish community and to provide direction to the Pastor in his stewardship of the Parish. Members of the Council are expected to have the spiritual, intellectual and interpersonal assets and sensitivities to contribute constructively to this critical mission. In forming judgments about issues that are before the Council, members of the Council are expected to act in the best interests of the Parish and the Universal church. They are expected to have the motivation and time to participate fully in the meetings and other activities of the Council.

The Pastoral Council should represent the Parish broadly across the different phases and perspectives of our spiritual life, mission and development. As described in more detail in the Parish Covenant Book, the Council seeks representatives from each Commission of our Parish, including:

· Outreach (Sharing Committee, Soup Kitchen, Inter-faith Council, Respect Life, Ministry of Care, Bereavement, Elizabeth Ministry)
· Community Life (Friends, Men's Club, Women's Guild, PUPS, Welcoming Committee, Office Volunteers)
· Administration (Buildings and Grounds, Technology, Communication)
· Education / Formation (Adult Education, MATRIX, School, Religious Education)
· Worship & Spiritual Life (Liturgy Planning Team, Liturgical Ministers, Spiritual Life)
